Dell Technologies Solar Community Hubs Project: A Sustainable Model for Enabling Digital Education in Egypt
Giza Systems Foundation, in collaboration with Misr El Kheir Foundation and Dell Technologies, continues to implement the Dell Technologies Solar Community Hubs project in Egypt which was launched in 2022. This strategic partnership aims to equip students in community schools in the most underserved governorates with the digital tools and skills essential for their academic and professional future, by providing safe, technology-enabled learning environments.
The project is a global initiative by Dell Technologies designed to promote digital inclusion and empower education in underserved communities by providing technology-based learning opportunities, along with digital skills training, access to technological devices, and healthcare services for communities in need. The project was launched in Egypt through this collaboration with the goal of bridging the digital divide and empowering the next generation of students.
“The Dell Technologies Solar Community Hubs project reflects our ongoing commitment to using technology to advance human progress.” said Mohamed El-Zomor, Country Manager of Dell Technologies Egypt and Senior Director of Data Solutions for Central & Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa. “It represents our shared investment in supporting the inclusive growth of Egyptian society. We are proud to continue our mission of achieving digital inclusion by launching this center in Sohag and Fayoum governorates, marking an important step toward enhancing community well-being while driving sustainable, long-term growth.”
As part of this collaboration, Giza Systems Foundation, as the local implementation partner, is responsible for enhancing students’ digital literacy, 21st-century skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities. In addition, the foundation has established computer labs and provided solar panels and necessary digital infrastructure to ensure the project’s sustainability.
Eng. Tarek Heba, General Manager of Giza Systems Egypt, said “At Giza Systems Foundation, we believe that technology is the key to overcoming development challenges, especially in areas limited access to technology. This project, in partnership with Dell Technologies and Misr El Kheir Foundation, represents a significant step toward bridging Egypt’s digital divide. Eng. Shehab El Nawawi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Giza Systems Foundation, added “This project reflects Giza Systems Foundation’s commitment to empowering future generations by integrating advanced technology into curriculums and providing the essential digital tools. In addition to capacity building, it contributes to empowering students with the essential skills they need for their future. We are committed to leveraging our technological expertise to ensure the sustainability of this initiative and maximize its positive impact on the lives of these students and their communities.”
Dell Technologies has provided the funding and essential technology for this project, in addition to connecting the communities with healthcare services through its partnership with the Ibrahim Badran Foundation. Misr El Kheir Foundation has played a crucial role in facilitating access to community schools and the targeted student, drawing on its extensive experience in community development.
Eng. Amal Mobadda, Executive Director of Resource Development at Misr El Kheir Foundation, said “Education is at the heart of Misr El Kheir Foundation’s mission, particularly community education, which focuses on providing valuable learning opportunities for children who have dropped out of school, through 1,078 community schools spread across the country. We provide a lifeline for our children in villages to address the problem of school dropouts, as it offers them a second chance to improve their futures and the future of society as a whole. Our partnership with Dell Technologies and Giza Systems Foundation is a vital step in linking technology with education, creating modern, engaging learning environments that motivate children and increase their engagement and sense of belonging to the school. She added “We are proud of this collaboration and grateful for the support that is helping us turn this dream into reality. Together, we can reshape the future of education for the better.”
Computer Aid International has also played an essential role in the project’s success. Since 2011, the organization has been instrumental in identifying partners’ needs and selecting suitable sites under Dell’s global strategy to expand the reach of the initiative. In Egypt, Computer Aid International supported the selection of community center locations and oversaw the construction and installation processes, working closely with local suppliers and partners to ensure smooth implementation and the achievement of the desired impact.
Since its launch in 2022, the project has reached 1,592 beneficiaries, including 749 in Sohag and 843 in Fayoum, underscoring the effectiveness of this partnership in empowering children and youth through technology.
Building on this success, Giza Systems Foundation, Misr El Kheir Foundation, and Dell Technologies continue their joint efforts to expand the scope of the project in alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which aims to provide children with the opportunities they need to grow and thrive as active members of society. Through this collaboration, the initiative will continue to deliver essential resources for children in underserved communities to achieve growth and success.
